When it comes to brand photography, a lot of people think it’s as simple as showing up, posing, and walking away with some nice pictures.
But if you want photos that actually work for your business—images that help you stand out, attract clients, and boost your marketing—you need a solid plan.
That’s why I don’t just turn up with a camera and wing it. I take my clients through a detailed, strategic process to make sure they walk away with the photos they need (plus some they didn’t even realise they needed).
Why Strategy Matters in Brand Photography
Brand photography isn’t just about looking good—it’s about building trust and communicating your brand message. Studies show that people form a first impression in just 50 milliseconds (Source: CXL), and high-quality images play a huge role in shaping that impression.
In fact, a study by MDG Advertising found that content with compelling images gets 94% more views than content without. (Source: MDG Advertising).
That means if your images don’t reflect your brand and message properly, you’re missing out on potential clients before they even read a word of your content.
This is exactly why my process goes beyond just taking pretty pictures—it’s about making sure you get the right imagesthat align with your brand and marketing goals.
My Step-by-Step Process for Brand Shoots
1. Discovery Call: Getting to Know You & Your Business
Before we even pick a date for your shoot, we have a proper chat (over Zoom or in person if you’re local). This isn’t just a “tell me what you want” conversation—it’s a deep dive into:
- What your business does
- Who your ideal clients are
- Your marketing goals
- How you want to be perceived
- What you struggle with when it comes to visuals
This conversation helps us figure out if we’re the right fit to work together, but more importantly, it gives me a clear picture of how I can help you get the most strategic brand photos possible.
2. Welcome Guide & Workbook: The Prep Work That Makes a Difference
Once you’ve booked, I send over a Welcome Guide that explains exactly how the process works, so you never feel lost. I also send my Brand Shoot Workbook, which is designed to help you:
✅ Get clear on your brand identity
✅ Define your marketing messages
✅ Identify key shots you’ll need for different platforms (website, social media, PR, etc.)
This workbook ensures your shoot is tailored to your business needs, rather than just producing generic images that couldwork.
3. Pinterest Planning: Getting the Visuals Right
Photography is subjective—what one person loves, another might hate. That’s why I ask all my clients to create a Pinterest board with brand photos they’re drawn to. This helps me understand your aesthetic preferences and the type of images that fit your vision.
I also add to the board with creative ideas, so you can see how different styles might work for your brand. This way, there are no surprises on the day of the shoot—you’ll already have a clear idea of what we’re aiming for.
4. Pre-Shoot Planning Call: Finalising the Details
Two weeks before your shoot, we jump on another Zoom call to go through:
📌 Outfit choices (making sure they align with your brand)
📌 Props (anything that adds to your visual storytelling)
📌 Locations (whether it’s your office, a studio, or an outdoor setting)
📌 Shot list (ensuring we capture all the key images you need)
This step ensures that everything runs smoothly on the day—no stress, no last-minute panics.
5. Shoot Day: A Fun, Relaxed Experience
By the time shoot day arrives, you’ll feel completely prepared. No awkward “what do I do with my hands?” moments—I’ll guide you through poses, expressions, and setups to make sure you look and feel your best.
My goal?
To create a fun, relaxed environment where you can be yourself, while I capture the photos that will help your business grow.
6. Delivery & Support: More Than Just Photos
After the shoot, you’ll receive your fully edited images, ready to use in your marketing. But my support doesn’t stop there—I’ll also give you guidance on how to get the most out of your photos, whether it’s updating your website, refreshing your social media, or using them in PR opportunities.
Why This Process Works
By taking the time to understand your business and plan strategically, we ensure that every photo serves a purpose—whether it’s for your website, Instagram, LinkedIn, or other marketing materials.
You won’t just walk away with nice pictures. You’ll have:
✔ Photos that align with your brand and messaging
✔ A bank of images to use across all platforms
✔ Content that makes marketing easier and more effective
And most importantly, you’ll feel confident putting yourself out there.
